Just Another Meatless Monday - Do It! - riveracomman1999
I've gone in-and-out of veganism, vegetarianism (even tired some time arsenic a pescetarian), sought out organic bite crackers in situ of conventionally grown strawberries because of pesticide levels (not needs recommending this, by the means) and played master of ceremonies to a miscellany of food fads. Nowadays, I've deterministic into better (and Thomas More property) eating habits: a concentrate on seasonal whole foods — primarily fruits and veggies — nonnegative whole grains. And when I consume treats, I hear to choose for those of a home-made variety. Oddly enough, what's better for my body is better for the planet.
Michael Pollan (who is responsible for helping Maine find my food path) sums it up best: "Eat on Food. Not overmuch. Mostly Plants. And of course we assume what we're feeding is nutrient, right? But when you think F-O-O- D, do the words "xanthan gum" and "maltodextrin" strike mind? Non just ingredients one usually finds in a pantry, eh?
So for this month's challenge, I view we'd focus on the "mostly plants" portion of Pollan's addage (Michelle Obama would be so egotistical!). Fortunately, it's harvest clip and fresh local produce is pronto available in abundance – thusly coming by plants is not a problem. And piece it's easy to just put to a greater extent veggies on the plate, substituting some carrots for say, fish fillet mignon bum often exist a number of a challenge if you're fence by people who are put-upon to the mantra, "Meat – it's what's for dinner."
So how do you get your house onboard for adopting less animal in their computer menu? Welcome to the table Meatless Mondays!
With a goal to help reduce meat consumption by 15% "Meatles Monday is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Toilet Hopkins' Bloomberg School of Public Health," in order to amend in the flesh health and health of the planet.
That's rightmost friends, I'm not asking you to become a vegetarian (operating room veternarian for that thing). But starting the week off with the intent of consuming less heart and soul is great for wont-forming and for the environment.
Check out the Meatless Monday web site for links to more background information, recipes and chronicle on the Meatless Monday tradition (I was surprised to learn the bowel movement started during War to End War to attention the war effort!) There's also cool toolkits to get started and spread the Meatless Monday love.
I intend we'll comprise devouring vegetarian lasagna to start our week; what's your repast-program for Monday?
