Long Island Ice Tea – a cool and refreshing cocktail that you can enjoy anytime!  Tastes just like a class of iced tea!

This post is sponsored by Princess Cruises.  All thoughts are 100% my own.

Recently I had the amazing opportunity to go on an Alaska cruise with Princess.  It has been on my bucket list for a really long time, so I couldn't wait to get on the ship and experience Alaska.  Last year I went on a Panama Canal cruise with Princess, so I knew it was going to be a great time.

The Alaska cruise from Vancouver was super easy, because we could fly into Vancouver the day of the sailing and get right on the ship. We took the bus transfer from the airport to the cruise terminal and were able to walk right onto the ship.  Even with our super early 9am arrival!

Once on the ship we got settled in our room and headed for lunch.  I love that when you arrive the Horizon Court is open, as well as the Pizza and Grill area.  So you can start enjoying the cruise right away.  I brought my friend Rachel on the trip with me, and this was her first cruise ever.  So we started exploring the ship, checking out the different pools, bars, shops, and all the different areas on the ship.

And of course we had to have cocktails!  What girls trip doesn't start off with cocktails!  This Long Island Iced Tea was actually the go to for my friend Lynne, from 365 Days of Baking's,  husband Kurt.  I think I had 1 Long Island Iced Tea in my life, and that was on my 21st birthday.  Well he re-introduced me to it, and it quickly became a favorite.

So the first thing is the what's in a long island iced tea?

Long Island Iced Tea Ingredients

  • Gin
  • Tequila
  • Vodka
  • Rum
  • Triple Sec
  • Sweet and Sour Mix (Or a little lemon juice and simple syrup)
  • Cola

How to Make a Long Island Iced Tea

  • It is super easy to make this long iced tea recipe. You can make it by the pitcher or by the glass, just gather all of the ingredients with and something to measure.  If you don't have a shot glass or jigger you can use a tablespoon.  1 Tbsp =.5 oz
  • You will want 1 part of each of the long island iced tea ingredient. So decide if you are doing it by the glass (use about 1 oz of each) or the pitcher (use about 1/2 cup of each).
  • You can use lemon juice with simple syrup in place of sweet and sour mix if you don't have any.  Use about 1 oz of lemon juice and 1/2 oz of simple syrup for a glass.
  • The cola is really just to give it color. So add until you get to the color of iced tea, you really just need a splash.

The bartenders on the ship were amazing.  They got to know us, knew what we liked to drink and always put on a great show!  At one point they made a Top Shelf Long Island Iced Tea that used all the premium brands of liquor and Prosecco instead of cola.  It was super light in color but oh my was that good!

So if you are thinking about going on an Alaska cruise, I highly recommend it!  You will never get bored sailing through Glacier Bay admiring the gorgeous scenery with a long island iced tea in hand!  Or playing afternoon trivia, or bingo, or games in the library, or one of the other million on board activities available to you.  Did I mention there was an escape room on board?  We may have set the ship's record!
