I have a 2014 Roush Raptor and my CAI filter is in need of a cleaning. I have looked all over the place and I could only find a few references to how to clean, the concensous seems to be a standard recharge kit for an oil based filter, but I am not sure this thing is a oil based filter, can anyone confirm that this sucker should be cleaned and reoiled?

Yes it is a oil based filter. I use the K&N recharging kit with the the aerosol can of oil. It's extremely important not to over oil it and it's needs to be 100% dry before you reinstall it and drive the truck or you will gunk up your MAF Sensor.

I've actually been wondering this too. And my filter is filthy. How well does this recharge kit work? I emailed Roush and they said replacement filters are $69.99, and the recharge kit is like $12.99 on Amazon. It's a no brainer as long as it's a magical aerosol spray..

It works very well as long as you do it properly. I've cleaned mine many times and only had an issue once. The $12.99 kit is the one with the oil in a bottle with a dripper end and it makes you over oil it 95% of the time. The one with the aerosol oil can is $19.99. I bought the other one by mistake one and wound up over oiling my filter and it gunked up my MAF Sensor. You need to set aside half a day to do it properly. First after you remove it the is a cleaner that you spay it down really well with and let it sit for a few minutes. Then spay it down with a hose and your filter will turn white once all the old oil is rinsed off. Shake it out really well and let it dry completely. I'll sometimes put it in front of a fan depending on how much of a rush I'm in. Once it's dry you just lightly spray it with the oil until it's coated completely and turns red again. The red helps you see and make sure you didn't miss any spots. It then needs to dry completely again before reinstalling it. I like to flip it like every 20 minutes from top to bottom since the oil will run down the fabric of the filter due to gravity (Science lesson lol) this way it doesn't puddle at the bottom. When ever I clean my filter I also remove the MAF Sensor and clean it with MAF cleaner and also spay the inside of the tube and wipe it out with Throttle Body/ Intake Cleaner but that's just me and my OCD so that part is optional lol.

Well $20 bucks is certainly better than $70. I'll find it and give it a shot, thanks for the tips too.

No problem bro. I have a K&N on my black truck and have a second filter so it makes it a little easier because I'll cleaned and oiled so I can just swap them out. I've thought about getting a second Roush one for the other truck also th make it easier but that ******* $70 price tag is what's stopped me so far too lol. I was able to get the extra K&N one for like $35 since the don't charge extra for the name. Apparently the word Roush make the same filter cost twice as much lol.

Haha yeah I've looked into a spare several times, whether Roush or K&n and just can pull the trigger. Frig it if I can't clean this one up then I'll look into a replacement
